ABSTRACT

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, dance education, which is heavily dependent on a face-to-face model, had to change and continue in a virtual environment. How did the rapid adoption of online technologies affect tertiary dance educators' teaching? More importantly, what were the practical ideas and effective tools/strategies learned to move dance scholarship and practice into a post-pandemic era? This study investigates nine tertiary dance educators from Europe, Oceania, North America, and Asia, who conducted online dance classes during the pandemic. This study has utilized multiple sources of data (images, videos, and writings) from dance educators to explore the challenges, benefits, and innovations in the context of virtual dance teaching. Dance educators have shared their views on teaching dance online: tools they have utilized as well as pros and cons with regards to different pedagogies and learning spaces. Findings indicate that the present online model will have a significant impact on future dance education. This article shares lessons and insights on tools, pedagogies, and strategies, which not only support dance education in a post-pandemic era but can also benefit other practice-based subjects at large. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Physical documents may easily be converted into digital versions in the modern digital era by employing scanning software and the internet. The day when this activity needed printers and scanners is long gone. Nowadays, even our smartphones and cameras may be used to quickly convert paper documents into digital ones. This is especially useful in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the ability to share and access documents online is more important than ever. This study proposes an application for illiterate people to quickly translate scanned papers or photos into their native language and save them in a digital format. The Application makes use of image processing methods and has capabilities including PDF conversion, image colour adjustment, cropping, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). A user-friendly application, developed using the Flutter Framework and programmed in Python and Dart, serves as the interface for the system. The proposed application is cross-platform and works with a variety of gadgets. This method intends to increase accessibility and productivity for illiterate people in the digital age by integrating image processing with language translation. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

With the full arrival of the digital era, fueled by both information technology and business marketing, rumors are produced and spread endlessly on social networks. During the recent novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, online rumors have continued to flourish. Most existing studies on traditional rumor detection rely on a large number of features in practical applications. However, the current severe epidemic scenarios have limited rumor information features, and it remains a challenging problem to detect epidemic rumors with high accuracy using only limited information. As a result, we propose a novel Few-shot Rumor Detection model (FRD) for the novel coronavirus pneumonia, which is combined with meta-learning to be able to accurately identify rumors as soon as possible in crises. Specifically, we started by using the BERT+BiLSTM combination for rumor text feature extraction and representation to generate the historical rumor sample-wise vector and epidemic rumor sample-wise vector;secondly, the prototypical network was introduced to summarize the historical rumor data, and the feature vectors of samples belonging to the same category were averaged to obtain the prototype representation of historical rumor category;finally, we utilize the modified cosine similarity measure function to calculate the distance between the class-wise vector of historical rumor text and the sample-wise vector of epidemic rumor, and complete the rumor detection according to the nearest neighbor method. Our experimental results on English datasets show that the FRD rumor detection model proposed in this paper is superior to other baseline algorithms in terms of accuracy, precision, recall and macro F1 value. From the comparison of experimental results, the FRD model can effectively improve conventional rumor detection methods, and better realize the early detection of sudden epidemic rumors. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The digital era, which is a jargon in welcoming the technological developments has given birth to a new form of learning that eliminates the requirement of physical presence of teachers and students within the same place and time, or it can be known as Online Learning. The possibility for the institution of education in supporting their business into a new level of services in supporting their ecosystem have met the challenges of the readiness in doing the transformation from the traditional learning within the context of human resources, technology, and learning concept into a syllabus with the purpose of achieving the same level or output. When the Corona Virus Diseases 19 (COVID 19) made drastic changes in every aspect that afterwards became a global pandemic, the implementation of online learning would ensure the survivability of the educational institution in keeping their business. Telkom University, as one of private university in Indonesia, with the student body almost reaches 30.000, uses Learning Management System (LMS) in enabling the learning activities as the primary solution but has a problem in ensuring no cheating activities during the examination. As the common approach in ensuring the integrity of online examination through LMS with the creation of question bank and randomize the question is seen as not efficient, the institution also tries to monitor and control with the implementation of video conference-based application like ZOOM and Safe Exam Browser (SEB), but raises another problem in cost, compatibility issues, and motivation issues. Proctoring has become another approach that is recently has continue evolving with the involvement from Artificial Intelligence (AI) in doing the facial recognition. This research will develop the proctoring tools that can be integrated with the LMS used in Telkom University as the strategy in preventing misconduct behavior that led to academic cheating in online examination. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

In the digital era, enormous amounts of data have been generated in education that has led to data driven approaches which in turn help effective decision making. Educational data mining has been used as a very effective tool for identifying the hidden patterns in educational data, predicting students' performance and to enhance the teaching /learning environment. Educational data mining tools and techniques help institutes in providing information about students e.g., about enrolment of students, weak students can be identified earlier so that various corrective strategies can be applied, and various resources can be allocated to enhance their performance and their success in courses they enrolled. This paper examines the research efforts that have been made in the field of educational data mining and the various educational data mining tools and techniques used in recent years for predicting student's performance. We live in a world where enormous volumes of data are collected, but if these data are not further examined, they remain nothing more than enormous amounts of data We may use this data, analyze it, and gain a significant edge by using new approaches and procedures. Data mining is the ideal approach in this situation. Extraction of hidden and valuable information and patterns from massive data sets is known as data mining. It has already been widely used in several fields, including banking, sales, marketing, telecommunications, and finance. This essay aims to introduce a unique use of data mining for education, known as educational data mining. An interdisciplinary study topic called Educational Data Mining (EDM) was established to apply data mining to the educational sector. To examine the data gathered during teaching and learning, it employs a variety of tools and methodologies from machine learning, statistics, data mining, and data analysis. The process of turning large educational databases' raw data into useful information that can be used for decision-making in educational systems as well as for a better understanding of students and their learning circumstances is known as educational data mining. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

This article aims to examine the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic constructed by online media outlets in Indonesia as one of the primary sources of information during the crisis. It uses qualitative content analysis to determine how online media in Indonesia construct the reality of COVID-19. The country's eight most accessed online media websites are the objects of this study with a three-unit analysis: context, message, and tone. The result shows that Indonesian media coverage has predominantly emphasised the pandemic's political context over the health and economic context. Informants have predominantly been politicians;epidemiologists and scientists have been given little space. In this case, the media system in Indonesia through online news media were not able to play an optimal role in the early phases of the pandemic due to the tendency of this news construction.

ABSTRACT

The emergence of digital technologies has profoundly affected and transformed almost every aspect of societal relations. These impacts have also reached public administration, including its governance. Digital technologies’ rise has paved the way for the surfacing of a new public governance model called the Digital Era Governance (DEG) model (often referred to as e-government, digital government, e-governance, or digital governance) in which digital technologies play a central role. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive and in-depth examination of DEG research over the past two decades. Bibliometric analysis is based on the Scopus database that contains 9175 documents published between 2001 and 2020. In this context, several established and innovative bibliometric approaches are applied. The results reveal the growth of DEG research over the last two decades, especially in recent years, as accelerated by several of the most relevant documents published in reputable journals such as Government Information Quarterly. Most DEG research has been conducted in Anglo-Saxon countries, as confirmed while examining the most relevant authors’ affiliations and collaborations. The results also indicate that DEG has advanced from conventional public services to citizen-oriented e-services by including citizens’ participation and, most recently, even to smart services by facilitating emerging and disruptive technologies. The findings add to the stock of scientific knowledge and support the evidence-based policymaking needed to successfully pursue a sustainable future.
